Supramolecular Chemistry

Supramolecular chemistry focuses on the creation of complex molecular architectures through non-covalent interactions such as hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, π–π stacking, host–guest interactions, and metal coordination. Instead of forming new covalent bonds, this field studies how molecules organize and communicate with one another to form higher-order structures. These assemblies enable programmable materials and systems that respond to environmental cues.

Typical works in this area include:

  • Designing host–guest complexes and molecular encapsulation systems
  • Creating self-assembled organic frameworks, cages, and gels
  • Developing molecular machines and dynamic supramolecular switches
  • Engineering responsive materials that react to light, pH, or temperature
  • Studying cooperative binding and molecular recognition phenomena
